The Blocker Card That Broke the Market
Torchic β is the most expensive of the original trio β not because Torchic is popular, but because Torchic β in PSA 10 is astonishingly rare. With one of the lowest gem-mint populations of any Gold Star, it's become what collectors call a "blocker card" β the piece preventing more people from completing a full PSA 10 set.
Only about 17 complete PSA 10 Gold Star sets exist, and Torchic is the primary reason. The card suffers from poor centering and edge whitening straight from the pack. This scarcity has driven prices into five figures despite Torchic being a basic starter.
The shiny form replaces the standard orange with golden-yellow. For set completionists, Torchic β represents the ultimate test of patience and budget.
