The Guardian of the Sea in Prismatic Light
Crystal Lugia is the crown jewel of Aquapolis and one of the most valuable WOTC-era cards in existence. PSA 10 copies have sold for $24,600 (July 2025), with prices climbing steadily as the card's significance to collectors continues to grow.
Lugia's Crystal Types — Psychic, Water, and Fighting — mirror the Guardian's deep-sea mythology. Saitou's artwork bathes Lugia in prismatic light, the Diving Pokémon emerging from a sea of swirling energy that gives the card an almost stained-glass quality.
The e-Card era (Expedition, Aquapolis, Skyridge) coincided with Pokémon's lowest ebb in Western popularity. Fewer boxes were produced, fewer were opened, and the Crystal cards inside were extraordinarily rare. This genuine scarcity — not artificial hype — is what drives prices.
For Lugia collectors specifically, this card sits alongside Shining Lugia (Neo Revelation) and Legend Lugia as one of the holy trinity of vintage Lugia cards.
