The Ghost That Required a Trade
The Masaki promos are a set of five trade-evolution Pokémon (Gengar, Golem, Machamp, Alakazam, and Omastar) that were distributed through a mail-in campaign in Japan in 1996. Players had to collect points from CoroCoro Comic and send them in to receive the cards.
Gengar has always been one of the most popular Ghost-type Pokémon, and the Masaki promo version — featuring Keiji Kinebuchi's distinctive artwork — has become a significant collector's item. The holo treatment on these early promos is particularly beautiful.
The Masaki promos represent some of the earliest Pokémon promotional cards ever produced, predating even the English release of the TCG. For collectors focused on origins, these cards are foundational artifacts.
