The Digital Pokémon's Analog Rarity
Porygon — the first artificial Pokémon, made entirely of programming code — received a Fan Club exclusive holo promo in 1997. The irony of a digital Pokémon being one of the rarest physical cards isn't lost on collectors.
Porygon has a complicated legacy. After the infamous "Electric Soldier Porygon" anime episode caused seizures in hundreds of Japanese viewers in 1997, the Pokémon was effectively banned from anime appearances. This controversy gives the card additional historical significance.
The Fan Club promo version features a distinctive holo pattern and early-era card design that places it firmly in the founding days of the TCG. Alongside the Eevee Fan Club promo, it represents the earliest exclusive distributions.
